After 257 picks over a three day stretch, the 2025 NFL Draft has concluded, and it did not disappoint. Despite this draft not being loaded with quarterback prospects, it made up for it with talented players like Travis Hunter and Abdul Carter, both of whom displayed elite talent and versatility in their final seasons in college. So let’s break down some of the top stories from the draft!
Following the Titans inevitably picking Quarterback Cam Ward (Miami) with the first pick, the Jaguars made the gutsy decision to trade picks with the Browns and take the two-way star, Travis Hunter. While many scouts and NFL executives have doubted the potential for Hunter to play both sides of the ball, he made it clear that it wasn’t up to them, stating that he wouldn’t play for an organization that wouldn’t allow him to do so. Fortunately for Travis, Jaguars General Manager James Gladstone made the final decision to trade up and meet Hunter’s demands, a huge risk with even bigger upside.
With the ensuing pick, the Giants made the no-brainer, selecting Abdul Carter out of Penn State. Not only is Carter able to get to the quarterback, he can wreak havoc in the backfield and destroy RPO and Read Option plays. Even though the Giants have an already loaded defensive line, Carter is the kind of player who only shows up every few years, and presents a new hope for a Giants franchise that has long been struggling.
Looking past the top picks in the draft, there were several players who’s draft position raised eyebrows around the league. First of whom was Tyler Warren, as the majority of fans and scouts had the elite tight end falling to the Jets with the seventh pick and being the first player of his position off the board, including myself. Though this did not play out as expected, as the Jets wound up selecting an offensive lineman, and the Bears selected Tight End Colstan Loveland with the tenth pick. Luckily for the Indianapolis Colts, Warren was still on the board at 14, a pick they will surely not regret.
While Warren’s draft slide was surprising, it was an afterthought compared to Shedeur Sanders falling into the fifth round. Once thought of as a top-5 pick, Shedeur Sanders wound up being the second quarterback drafted by the Cleveland Browns and the sixth total, and was subject to ridicule all weekend. While many believe that it has to do with a lack of talent, there were many questions raised regarding his character leading up to the draft, as one NFL coach anonymously stated their disliking of Sanders which likely played into his fall from grace. Even though this is a humbling experience, it will likely have a much greater impact on his career than we realize, putting a chip on his shoulder and providing him with the extra motivation to succeed in this league.
