As the final semester of senior year approaches, it’s hard not to feel a mix of emotions. There’s excitement for what’s ahead and a sense of urgency to make the most of these last few months. At the same time, it’s a chance to reflect on how far we’ve come and what this chapter of life has meant. To get a better sense of how seniors are feeling during this time, I spoke with three students to hear their thoughts on what they’re looking forward to, their plans for the future, and any advice they’d share with underclassmen about making the most of college.
Armaan Jhangiani
How do you feel going into your final semester of your senior year?
I feel great. The LMU University Core, Major courses, outside clubs and involvements, and faculty has taught me a lot. I am excited for the next steps of my life post-graduation as well.
What are you looking forward to most during your spring semester?
I am looking forward to the freedom and Senior activities. There have been rumors about some secret tours that sound fun.
What are your plans after graduation?
Currently lining up some experiences and work post-graduation, all within the Finance industry which aligns with my major.
Any advice you would give to underclassmen?
Explore what LMU has to offer. Don’t be nervous about joining different clubs, activities, retreats, opportunities, etc. because there is a lot to do here. The next years of your life is where you can learn who you are and who you want to be. Take advantage of this opportunity, as many don’t have the same chances. Carpe diem!
Jash Shah
How do you feel going into your final semester of your senior year?
I feel bittersweet. It is a moment of anxiety and melancholy but it’s also a moment of having the best times ahead of me. The semester reminds me that college is coming to an end but that itself reminds me to make the most of it.
What are you looking forward to most during your spring semester?
I am looking forward to making the best memories with the friends I have made along the way. Of course that includes job applications too.
What are your plans after graduation?
Considering that I am an international student, plans after graduation include going to grad school but that comes with its tribulations knowing the changing landscape of political power aka the Trump Administration.
Any advice you would give to underclassmen?
Do not ever worry about being alone or finding your people, it will happen before you know it. In time you will have friends you call family. Keep working hard and take a day at a time, always remembering that health comes first. This may sound too much like a parent speech but it is easy to get swayed by academics. Just breath and keep going.
Adele Jawed
How do you feel going into your final semester of your senior year?
I feel a mix of emotions going into my final semester. There is a part of me that’s so excited by the opportunities I’ll have and another that’s worried because I don’t know what my future looks like. Mostly I’m trying to enjoy the end of school and make the most of my last semester here.
What are you looking forward to most during your spring semester?
I’m looking forward to a bit more free time in my schedule and my classes! I’m hoping to do my best and showcase my work for my thesis courses and spend time with friends.
What are your plans after graduation?
I have a few ideas I’m deciding between but I’m not sure what my summer will look like or where I’ll go from there. I’m just hoping it’s good and I can work towards my career goals.
Any advice you would give to underclassmen?
Get involved on campus! Find a few things to dedicate yourself too. You get to be surrounded by a great community that way and cultivate your skills and passions.
Great article, Nikitaa! It really captures the mood of the senior class nearing the end. The interviews with Armaan and Jash hit home – that mix of excitement and “senioritis” is definitely real. Armaan’s advice about exploring LMU is spot on; I wish I had joined more clubs earlier in my college journey. It’s easy to get caught up in classes, but those experiences outside the classroom can be just as valuable.
I also love how both guys touched on post-grad plans. It’s reassuring to hear even those in finance, a seemingly defined path, are still figuring things out and lining up experiences rather than having everything perfectly mapped. As Underclassmen think beyond classes seek to define interests with a broad overview. Don’t let pressure rush passion.
