LOS ANGELES– In just one week Loyola Marymount University’s Lair will be closing for major renovations.
On April 26th, LMU’s dining facility ‘the Lair’ will close to start remodeling plans. The dining hall is bringing back the All-You-Care-to-Eat (AYCTE) dining model, a campus-based service where students and faculty will use a single-entry-fee swipe system which will allow them to consume as much food as wanted in the dining hall. Students will be able to tap their OneCards which will charge a ‘meal swipe,’ while LMU affiliates and community members will pay a fixed door rate for entry.
Along with the new dining system, LMU affiliates can expect new menu options and improved serving styles; the goal of this renovation is to improve overall satisfaction and functionality of the LMU dining experience.
A Look Into The New Lair
Students and staff can expect a brand new Lair layout for the 2026-2027 academic school year. The main entrance into the dining hall will be through the Malone Student Center, where patrons will pay entry or swipe their OneCard. Inside, the dining room will feature more warmth and sunlight with a new installation of skylights, furniture will be renovated with new designs and colors adhering to feedback received from a student survey last year.
A portion of the outdoor patio connected to the building will also become Lair-only seating. Because the AYCTE model needs a secure perimeter, the Palm Walk patio seating will be sectioned off to provide outside seating for the dining hall.
To compensate for the renovation period, students can get breakfast, lunch, and dinner at a large dining tent along Alumni Mall. These meals will use the AYCTE dining method, meaning students will pay an entry price with their OneCards. Food trucks will also be accessible, accepting meal-plan dollars and specified to be “staying open late” for the next few weeks. On campus dining options like Qdoba and Iggy’s will also remain available to students.
For students and staff staying on campus for the summer, Roski’s dining hall will be the main dining facility, located on the first floor of University Hall.
