In this week’s edition of Loyola Marymount’s newsletter sent out Tuesday, Sept. 23 via email, President Thomas Poon issued a direct video response to certain points of contention from the Sept. 16 ‘Community Conversations‘ meeting.
In the video, Poon stated that “SEIU’s practices and tactics were slowing our progress and fostering a divisive environment that is not aligned with the university’s Catholic values and principles,” adding that “SEIU is the third-party organization.” Poon maintains that the administration had been “bargaining in good faith since December 2024,” and states that an increase in paychecks for affected faculty will be evident on Sept. 23.
At the next town hall meeting on Oct. 28, he states that university leaders will walk through the “financial picture, revenues, expenses, endowment and more.”
